I can’t remember the last time I have loved art pieces so much! I love these—-mostly because looking at them only reconfirms what I’ve long thought—-1950s sophistication and lady fashion rocks! The classicist of all! Although, I will admit that the 1910s, 1920s, and 1930s come pretty close too. I also like the first half of the 1960s—-albeit, such a specialized period cannot be easily distinguished in a retrospective set like this.

It was the cusp between the 1950s and 1960s (a period that is not readily recognized as distinct) that simply oozed elegance, charm, sophistication, and sex-appeal. Just take a look at old photos of the glamor stars of the day (Liz Taylor, Natalie Wood, and Deborah Kerr come to mind), and you’ll know what I mean. Ah, so lovely!

Nanny McPhee (2007, 2010)

image

Both the Nanny McPhee films had AMAZING endings! Simply amazing! However flawed parts of the second film was, the ending totally made up for it! Thank you for sharing your brilliance, Emma Thompson! I wish everyone could have a Nanny McPhee in their lives, to make everything better! : - )

The Hunger Games (2012)

Went to the movies, w/ my grandmother, and saw The Hunger Games, which reminded me of Survivor, I Am Legend, Gladiator, and Willie Wonka, all rolled into one! Not that I ever saw the first two movies all the way through. But, based on what I’ve heard of them, yeah…

Once Upon A Time (TV series, 2011- )

The latest episode was fabulous!! I wish this show could last for decades, like Daytime soaps do/did! I mean, it’s a Soap too, the only difference being that it airs in Primetime.

Anyway, this latest storyline involving the Mad Hatter was brilliant! It makes me wonder if ABC has novelists working on the show! I hope we see Alice in Wonderland, at some point. I would love to see my alter-ego on
TV! : - )

And, the best part is, I know that we, the fans, have so much more to look forward to, because the show is produced by ABC, a Disney Co. I don’t think any other network could make a show like this and make it so well—-b/c with ABC being a Disney channel, I’m sure that we can look forward to the 101 Dalmations story being woven in at some pount, as well as non-Disney classics, like The Wizard of Oz, The Hobbit and more! Heck, maybe even Christepher Robin and Winnie the Pooh—-set in the Hundred Acre Wood! Yaaaaaay!! So excited for what may be to come!!

[and as I’ve said elsewhere, I wouldn’t be surprised if Emma Swann turns out to be Mother Goose—-the play-on-words actually works with the story!)

Shahs of Sunset (TV series, 2012- )

image

Well, it was as much like Jersey Shore as I thought it would be. But, it’s like Shahrzad Sepanlou said, “It’s a ‘Reality’ show…that’s what people expect.” Hence Shahs of Sunset is not to be taken too seriously. I’m just glad Persians are now getting some screen-time, outside the news. I think I’ll keep watching…

American Horror Story (2011- )

image

I like the occasional “scary” mystery (like Burnt Offerings or The Poltergeist Trilogy), as long as it doesn’t really “scare” me. I like to me intrigued, not scared stiff! I started watching the FX show, American Horror Story, and it’s just too much! Too much bad language and blood and just too much badness! I guess the kind of “horror” that isn’t so horrible is a rare thing indeed. Well, I’ll just say I’m sorry I even gave that show a chance…I am interested to see what happens, but I don’t think I should. So, I better bow-out now…

You Again (2010)

Laughter and fun aside, what we’re left with is a movie which tries to be more sincere than it really is. A failure in terms of honesty, leaving the viewer to feel let-down., 17 June 2011
4/10

*** This review may contain spoilers ***

I have to admit that after I watched this movie in the theater for the first time, I was swept away by the laughs, and emerged from my initial viewing with a bit of a high because of that! The entire cast was great (Jamie Lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver were lots of fun opposite each-other!). Heck, I even added it on Facebook to my list of favorite movies! And, I told myself that I couldn’t wait to get a DVD copy to add to my personal collection!

But, then, after I did get a DVD and watched it for a second time, my feelings for the film were sorely different. I just couldn’t get past the necklace scene, and the blatantly obvious fact that Joanna didn’t seem to have changed (even though she would fool many of us into thinking she had). And, that realization was the straw that broke the camels back, for me. So, I deleted it off my Facebook and no-longer regard it as one of my favorites. And, I’m sorry to say that I’m rather embarrassed at myself for ever bragging about it to so many people in the first place, b/c it was a real disappointment in terms of why we, the audience, are supposed to ultimately like it; i.e. if the ultimate message was supposed to be about hope and how even the meanest bullies can change (which is what I was hoping for), then this film was a failure, because when it came down to it, it seemed to lack sincerity. As a movie lover, it pains me to admit this though, because I did so want to believe in the goodness of this film!
