People have remarked how much the late British actress, Natasha Richardson (seen here in sills from the 1998 remake of the 1961 Disney classic looks like fellow Brit star, Emma Thompson. And, as you can see from the Emma image below, they are quite right.

 

But, I’d like to take this comparison a step further and say that they both sound almost identical! I was listening to Natasha talk about her favorite sorts of movies on a 1990s AFI WOMEN IN FILM special, chronicling the different types of characters women have traditionally played in movies, and how those representations have changed through the decades, (located here, in-case anyone is interested), and I swear, every-time she uttered a word, I either thought of Jennifer Saunders or Emma Thompson—-and no, it’s not just because they’re British. I mean, I certainly wasn’t thinking of Julie Andrews, Maggie Smith or Emma Bunton!

Both lovely women, with very lovely, very distinct voices! And, I tell you true, the more I see of this Natasha Richardson, the more I like her! The Parent Trap turned me on to her, and now, I am a fan. Too bad I was such a late bloomer in that regard, though… I wish she was still with us.

I can’t remember the last time I have loved art pieces so much! I love these—-mostly because looking at them only reconfirms what I’ve long thought—-1950s sophistication and lady fashion rocks! The classicist of all! Although, I will admit that the 1910s, 1920s, and 1930s come pretty close too. I also like the first half of the 1960s—-albeit, such a specialized period cannot be easily distinguished in a retrospective set like this.

It was the cusp between the 1950s and 1960s (a period that is not readily recognized as distinct) that simply oozed elegance, charm, sophistication, and sex-appeal. Just take a look at old photos of the glamor stars of the day (Liz Taylor, Natalie Wood, and Deborah Kerr come to mind), and you’ll know what I mean. Ah, so lovely!

1000 different ways to make the same movie and TV show...

There are a thousand different ways to see the same picture, and a million different ways to paint it. That’s why I often appreciate re-makes. Looking forward to the Bewitched and The Munstersreboots, coming soon. I’m not saying they will be as good as the originals, but it will be interesting to watch the different interpretations of the shows. Sometimes though, the re-make is better…

Happy 95th birthday, Desi Arnaz!

He would have been 95 today!

I will always love I Love Lucy——the first show I ever really cared about! My first ever favorite show! Long before DVDs and box-sets were released, I used to record it every night, on the old Classic Nick at Nite 1985-1998line-up! I was one lucky kid! Nothing made me smile like Lucy! And, when we lost our cable (before I started recording), I used to cry, I missed

Lucy so much! From then on, once we got cable back, I recorded them on VHS and have kept them to this day!!

I will always appreciate Desi Arnaz, for his part in the creation of my most beloved favorite TV show! I loved it so much, I used to literally fantisize about jumping into the TV to be with them! I wanted to be Lucy! I wanted to be her best friend! She was my childhood hero! I love Lucy…but, I love Ricky too! Happy 95th, dear Desi!

Waiting For God (1990 - 1994) and other Britcoms I love...

‎Britcoms are the best! Absolutely Fabulous, Waiting for God, and most recently, I have discovered A Fine Romance! And, I love it! I’m not saying I like all Britcoms (“Fawlty Towers” gave me a headache in the first episode and I consider “Are You Being Served” to be mostly tacky and annoying), but the ones I love—-I REALLY LOVE!

My favorite so far is WAITING FOR GOD. May my elder years be just as romantic, sensual, witty, fun, and full of love! Just like the WFG couple themselves, Tom Ballard and Diana Trent! I recommend this show to everyone who has sophisticated taste but enjoys a good laugh. And, if you’re a romantic at heart, the more you watch it, the more you’ll fall in love. I did!

True Lies (1994)

just saw True Lies (1994) w/ Jamie Lee Curtis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and I loved it! Yeah, there’s action and violence. But! This movie has enough action to keep people fixated, but not to the point of being too gory. Plus, it had humor and heart to boot! Overall, it makes you believe in the “good guy,” Helen Tasker (Character) “Have you ever killed people?” Harry Tasker (Character) “Yeah, but they were all bad.” = )
